Peri O'Connor Psychotherapy and Counselling

A confidential space to explore the thoughts, feelings and challenges in your life

Welcome, my name is Peri and I am a psychotherapist providing both short-term and long-term therapy to adults in Menston or online.

I am warm, calm and compassionate. Clients have told me I am easy to trust and feel comfortable to share things they have never told people before.

Psychotherapy and counselling in a comfortable and private setting

Are you feeling anxious, stuck, really down, or like you're not good enough? Maybe you're not sure what's bothering you, or you don’t know where to begin. Life can be complicated and challenging, and it’s completely normal to need support along the way. I’m here to help. Together, we can create a supportive space where you can begin to understand yourself more deeply. I can guide you as you explore what’s going on in your life and help you find new, meaningful ways forward.

I offer a place where you can ‘come as you are’, where you can reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing in a confidential environment with someone from outside your day-to day life. In our work together, my aim is to offer a safe and supportive space where you feel truly heard, understood without judgment, and gently challenged when helpful. You’ll have the chance to explore how you became the person you are today, how your relationships have taken shape, and what changes you might want to make in your life.

As we go deeper, we’ll look at the thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations that may be holding you back. Through this process, you can begin to build new ways of supporting yourself, like managing difficult emotions, making sense of your thoughts, and relating more healthily to others. The goal is for you to feel more able to care for and protect yourself, and to make the changes that feel right for you.

I have extensive experience of working as a psychotherapist, having recently left the Leeds Womens Counselling and Therapy Service, where I was a psychotherapist working with women who had experienced childhood trauma. Prior to that I worked in psychotherapy roles at colleges, schools and the care sector.

I have an MA in Psychotherapy (distinction), a PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy (distinction), I am a qualified Transactional Analyst, having spent 4 years studying and gaining my diploma and UKCP registration. I have BACP accreditation status and am currently training in EMDR.

As a fully qualified, experienced psychotherapist I am fully committed to being the best I can and am a registered member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), an accredited member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). and a member of the UK Association of Transactional Analysis (UKATA). I abide by their code of ethics, which underpins all my work.

Speak in Confidence

I am passionate about the work I do and will accept you just as you are. Therapy takes place in a comfortable space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy space, thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

A problem shared...

Trouble with relationships; self-esteem and confidence; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Therapy provides us with a set of tools to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

Make different, better choices

Working together, I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand your existing patterns, why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make different, better and healthier choices moving forward.

“Peri just gets me! I was really scared at the thought of opening up to a stranger, but Peri made me feel completely at ease straight away. I really feel I could tell her anything and she would not judge, in fact I have shared things with her I have never told anyone. She is a star!”

Lola, Leeds

“I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate everything you have done for me over the last few months.  Your help, expertise and kindness have been so very helpful.  I can't thank you enough. I am now in a better place to move forward.

One great lesson I have learned is the importance of talking about and not suppressing emotions. You have been such a positive force for me and I am so grateful.”

Martin, on Zoom

“Thank you so much! I feel so much better. I have learned things about patterns in my behaviour and the way I relate to other people I just didn't realise before. My belief in myself has improved and I feel more confident day to day. I just feel so much happier, thank you Peri!”
